Based on the concept of the EastEnders Script Writer, Viv developed the idea further for a commission from CBBC in 2003.

UBOS is a TV cartoon series, shown on CBBC, about three friends at magic school and their fount of all magic, UBOS - the Universal Book of Spells. With UBOS’s help, the friends could have exciting adventures and turn to him to find spells to get them out of trouble.

This Flash e-card application allowed the user to choose a scene, write dialogue, and, most importantly, perform spells on behalf of the characters. These included turning characters into a frog or a stone and making them invisible.

The developers were John Kellett and Chris Henden.

In 2007, Viv developed a bilingual public-facing website for the BBC Pension Scheme, working closely with the Pensions Department and developers Sequence. Major changes were taking place in the Scheme, so keeping track of the situation and ensuring the content was compliant in two languages made it particularly challenging.

Most of the site is text-based, along with forms which enable groups such as volunteer visitors to submit their visit reports directly to the Pensions Department records.

You’ll also find a page about this in the web area of this site, which will tell you more about the work Viv has done on that side of things since 2001.

But her involvement with this prestigious singing competition goes back a lot further; in fact she has worked on every competition from its inception in 1983, right up to 2007.

From her earliest days as a TV Production Assistant, Viv has called shots for the outside broadcasts, prepared material for scripting, logged videotape and attended single camera shoots. Later, as Unit Manager, she arranged facilities and compiled budgets, and when the coverage grew larger and more complex in the 1990s, her work as Production Executive put her at the centre of the hub. Everything from the daily crewing schedule, to the arranging of interpreters for the edited interviews, to the rushing of tapes across town for transmission, and much more, crossed her desk, at which she toiled from early morning to late at night.

A Flash e-card application, commissioned by the EastEnders website and which appeared in the Fun and Games section for around four years from 2002. It allowed users to choose two characters from the soap, dress them and put them in one of the EastEnders locations before writing a scene of dialogue in speech bubbles. They could also change the facial expressions and the size of the shots, before sending the completed scene to a friend.

The dramatis personae was updated several times to reflect changes to the cast of this popular BBC One soap.

Starting from a much simpler concept first developed for the Welsh language soap, Pobol y Cwm, Viv’s contribution revolutionised the concept, adding the feeling of a linear piece of film and allowing much more freedom for the user’s self-expression.

The graphic artist was Glen Viljoen and the developer John Kellett.

The BBC Cardiff Singer of the World website supports what is probably the best singing competition on earth. It takes place in the June of odd years in the capital of Wales, and attracts the finest young classical talent from across the globe.

The competition website provides information, clips and features throughout the 10-day-long event, as well as advance booking details between competitions. It was also a pioneer of audio content, supporting exclusive live streaming of the competition as early as 2001.

Viv has developed the site from its humble beginnings in 1999 to what is now a major resource, attracting interest and input from aficionados of singing throughout the world.
